  • Hakeem Syed Zakir Hussain (1902 - 1984)
    Hakeem Syed Zakir Hussain was an eminent hakeem of his time. He graduated from Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband and Takmeel ul Tibb college with degrees in Islamic Studies and Unani (Greek) medicine respectively. Soon after he started his practice in 1928, he was widely acknowledged as an accomplished Tabib both in India and Pakistan. In 1949, he was specially selected as the first and only official Tabib at Karachi’s Jinnah Hospital (now Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre). 1n 1952, he founded Pakistan’s first "Unani Research Center" in Karachi where he remained "Incharge-in-Chief" till 1968. He continued his very successful private practice till the end and remained a renowned Tabib, scholar, visionary, social activist, and philanthropist. That is why he was considered by many an institution within himself.

On behalf of the President of the country, Field Marshal Muhammad Ayub Khan, Hakeem Zakir Hussain was presented with the esteemed Tamgha-e-Khidmat (one of Pakistan's highest civilian honors for distinguished service) by General Musa Khan - Governor West Pakistan.

He graduated from Sind Madarsat-ul-Islam, Karachi University, and Azam Tibbia College (Hyderabad) with degrees in Law, Islamic Studies, and Unani Medicine respectively. He formally started practicing Hikmat along with his father in 1972 and soon distinguished himself by developing his own exceptional skill-set in diagnosis and treatment. With his in-depth knowledge of Tibb and herbal pharmacopeia, he was able to create unique treatments by utilizing a wider array of Unani medicines.
