Arthritis

Arthritis, also called Waja-ul-Mafaasil in Arabic, is a term often used to mean any disorder affecting the joints that generally include symptoms like pain, stiffness, and etc. It may affect any age group and its intensity may also vary from mild to severe. Often the onset is gradual and symptoms worsen with age. Severe arthritis can result in chronic pain, inability to do daily activities such as walking, climbing, and changing posture and position. There are various types of Arthritis such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Juvenile Arthritis, and etc. While it may affect both men and women, in Pakistan, this disorder generally affects women.

Symptoms

Symptoms may include pain, stiffness, redness, warmth, swelling, and decreased range of motion of the affected joints. In some cases, joint structure might change due to this affliction becoming more and more knobby which may or may not be visible with the naked eye. Some patients may also display symptoms such as low grade fever.

Causes

While the root cause can be hereditary in a lot of cases, according to herbal medicine, phlegm humor imbalances are often responsible for this disorder. Furthermore, the following situations make a person more predisposed to suffering from Arthritis disorders:

Diet plays an important role. Excessive consumption of certain food items including some types of meats, fruits and vegetables can make a person more prone to this disorder.

Hakeem Rehan has also seen patients with chronic Iron deficiency, those who often donate blood, and those with lifestyle choices involving crash dieting and etc., often end up suffering from Arthritis.

In case of women, those suffering from chronic UTI infection, menstrual disorders, and miscarriages, and those using common contraceptive methods including coils and tubulizations, and those who indulge in lifestyle choices that result in hormonal imbalances become more prone to developing Arthritis.

Management and Treatment

Hakeem Syed Muhammad Rehan Alam’s family has been successfully treating all kinds of Arthritis disorders for more than 88 years. It is one of the signature treatments offered by Hakeem Rehan’s family and their expertise in this field is well known. Hakeem Rehan has a specific way of approaching diagnosis and treatment. Patient history, pulse analysis, and Qaroora (urine inspection) help the Tabib narrow down the root cause (such as trauma, infection, heredity, and relevant humor imbalances). Whenever necessary, we do make use of modern lab tests in arriving at and confirming diagnosis and in monitoring of treatment progress. Our treatment plan is very simple. Keeping in mind patient’s mezaj, patient is then immediately put on a strict dietary plan coupled with 6-18 week Unani medication drug regimen consisting of various processed and unprocessed herbs and etc., in the form of Herbal tea, madjoon (paste), Sufoof (powder), and tablets.
