The word Migraine originated from Greek (Unani) “hemi” meaning “half” and “krania” meaning “skull”. In Urdu it is called Dard-e-Shaqiqa. It is marked by symptoms like headache and increased ocular sensitivity that may vary in intensity throughout the day from being worse in the morning to less intense later on. Migraine is generally 35% hereditary.
While non Unani medicine can at best manage the symptoms to some extent, Herbal medicine has the potential to cure the ailment completely.
Symptoms
Headache, nausea, vomiting, ocular pressure, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, visual auras (light flashes, patterns, blind spots) sensitivity to sound (ringing, buzzing, hissing, chirping, whistling), tingling sensation (generally on the face or limbs), muscular spasms, and etc.
Causes
Generally chemical imbalances of the nervous system result in migraine attacks. That said, often it is hereditary. Its triggers may include a long list of factors such as: hormonal changes, diet (certain food items), exposure to bright and/or flickering lights, exposure to certain chemicals through diet and environment, physical and mental stress, exposure to extremes of cold and heat, changes in atmospheric pressure, and certain non Unani medications.
Management and Treatment
My (Hakeem Syed Muhammad Rehan Alam’s) family has been successfully treating all kinds of Migraine disorders for more than 88 years. It is one of our family’s signature treatments and our expertise in this field is well known. We have a proprietary way of approaching diagnosis and treatment. Patient history, pulse analysis, and Qaroora (urine inspection) help the Tabib narrow down the root cause (such as trauma, infection, heredity, and relevant humor imbalances). Whenever necessary, we do make use of modern lab tests in arriving at and confirming diagnosis and in monitoring of treatment progress. Our treatment plan is very simple. Patient is immediately put on a strict dietary plan coupled with generally up to 4-6 week Unani drug regimen consisting of various processed and unprocessed herbs etc.
Note
We can confidently say that we can cure most forms of migraine completely if the patient is willing to follow our treatment guidelines. Our suggested controlled dietary plan is extremely potent and often the patient can very successfully manage and at times even cure certain kinds of Migraine by just following the plan.
