Hakeem Syed Muhammad Rehan Alam

Hakeem Syed Muhammad Rehan Alam is an expert herbal (Unani) medicine practitioner based in Karachi, Pakistan. To date, he has successfully served countless patients at his Aisha Manzil (Federal B Area) and Clifton (Block 7) Matabs. Hakeem Rehan Alam has now expanded his practice to Gulistan-e-Jauhar (N – 104, Block 15, behind Metropolitan Academy).

Hakeem Syed Muhammad Rehan Alam belongs to a family of renowned Hakeems serving humanity since 1928. He trained under his father, the very distinguished Hakeem Syed Muhammad Saeed Alam, who in turn trained under his father, the very eminent Hakeem Syed Zakir Hussain (proud recipient of Tamgha-e-Khidmat). Hakeem Rehan Alam is a qualified Fazil-ul-Tibb-wal-Jarahat Hakeem; and he also has a BA in Economics (S. M. Arts and Commerce College); and an MA in Economics (Karachi University).

Hakeem Syed Muhammad Saeed Alam

Hakeem Syed Muhammad Saeed Alam is the father of Hakeem Syed Muhammad Rehan Alam. He was born in 1939 in Muradabad, India. He is the eldest son of the eminent Hakeem Syed Zakir Hussain who started transferring much of his in-depth professional knowledge to his son early on in his life. Additionally, he also started studying Tibb in the Arabic language in 1958 from a very famous expert Tabib of his time, Hakeem Ali Hussein. He continued to learn the intricacies of his field from his renowned father and the distinguished teacher for the next 17 years. During this time he also graduated from Sind Madarsat-ul-Islam Law College with a BA – Law degree in 1962. He later obtained Fazil ul Tibb wal Jarahat qualification from Azam Tibbia College – Hyderabad (Sindh) in 1980; and went on to get an MA degree in Islamic Studies from Karachi University in 1982.

Hakeem Syed Muhammad Saeed Alam formally started practicing Hikmat along with his father in 1972 at his Federal B Area Matab in Karachi. He soon distinguished himself by developing his own expertise in diagnosis and treatment. With his in-depth knowledge of Tibb and herbal pharmacopeia, he was able to create unique treatments by utilizing a wider array of Unani medicines.

In 1995, Hakeem Syed Muhammad Saeed Alam expanded his practice to Clifton, Karachi and continues to serve his patients today.

Hakeem Syed Zakir Hussain

Hakeem Syed Zakir Hussein is the grandfather of Hakeem Syed Muhammad Rehan Alam. He was born in Muradabad, India in 1902. After his initial schooling, he studied Islamic education under eminent scholars of the time that included Shaykh Ul Hind – Maulana Mahmood ul Hasan Deobandi, Mufti Muhammad Shafi Deobandi, and Maulana Shabbir Ahmed Usmani. At Dar ul Uloom Deoband, he obtained Maulvi Fazil degree in 1926. He then joined the Takmeel ul Tibb college in Lucknow and graduated with the Kamil ul Tibb wal Jarahat degree in 1931.

In 1928, Hakeem Zakir Hussian started practicing Tibb along with his renowned teacher Hakeem Abdul Haleem. In 1932, he started his own Tibb practice in Moradabad, India. Due to his exceptional acumen and professional knowledge he became famous within a short time. Because of his extraordinary work and dedication to the community, Indian Government made Hakeem Zakir Hussain an Honorary Magistrate; and for the next eleven years he performed his duties both as an accomplished Hakeem and a serving magistrate.

Hakeem Zakir Hussain was convinced that it was his moral and religious duty to migrate to a region governed under Islamic principles. He therefore migrated to the newly found Islamic Republic of Pakistan in 1948 and devoted himself to the wellbeing of humanity.

He started his practice in Karachi and, once again, very quickly established his name in his field. He was widely acknowledged as an accomplished Tabib. The list of people that recognized his exceptional service to the society included prominent personalities of the time like Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan – the First Prime Minister of Pakistan, Sardar Abdul Rab Nishtar – Federal Minister, Begum Fazl ur Rehman – Federal

Minister, Pir Ilahi Bux – Chief Minister Sind, Doctor Zahid Hussein – Governor State Bank, Field Marshal Muhammad Ayub Khan – President of Pakistan, General Muhammad Musa Khan – Commander-in-Chief, Syed Darbar Ali Shah – Commissioner Karachi, and many others.

In 1949, due to his exceptional technical expertise in his field and devotion to the community, Hakeem Zakir Hussain was specially selected as Pakistan’s first and only official Tabib at Jinnah Hospital (now Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre) and given the designation of Assistant Unani Medical Officer.

He stayed in this position till 1952. He continued his association with the Ministry of Health and found “Unani Research Center” in New Town, Karachi where he held the position of “Incharge-in-Chief” (till 1968). Hakeem Zakir Hussain passed away in Karachi, Pakistan on February 14, 1984.

In 1966, Government of Pakistan bestowed upon Hakeem Zakir Hussain “Tamgha-e-Khidmat”, one of the highest honors, for his distinguished service.
General Musa Khan – Governor West Pakistan, himself officially presented the esteemed Tamgha-e-Khidmat to Hakeem Zakir Hussain on behalf of Field Marshal Mohammed Ayub Khan, then President of Pakistan.

Hakeem Zakir Hussain also attended numerous local and international conferences and seminars across the country. In 1968, in his official capacity he represented Pakistan on trips abroad while attending international Tibbi Conferences in Egypt, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia.

In 1971, when Hakeem Zakir Hussain opened doors to his private clinic in Federal B Area, Karachi, he named it “Ibn-e-Sina Dawakhana”, after one of his true inspirations and one of the greatest Hakeems and medical authors to have ever lived, Hakeem Abu Ali al-Husayn ibn Abd Allah ibn Sina. He continued on with his very successful practice and remained a renowned Tabib, scholar, visionary, social activist, and philanthropist till February 14, 1984 when he passed away.

No wonder this dynamic personality was considered by many an institution within himself.
